PageRank is a link analysis algorithm, named after Larry Page and used by the Google web search engine, that assigns a numerical weighting to each element of a hyperlinked set of documents, such as the World Wide Web, with the purpose of “measuring” its relative importance within the set. The algorithm may be applied to any collection of entities with reciprocal quotations and references [related to webpages]. The numerical weight that it assigns to any given element E is referred to as the PageRank of E and denoted by

Google works on the theory that the most important pages on the internet are pages with the most in-bound links.
Think of PageRank as marketing votes… when a page links to another page that page is casting a vote.
Important Tip – Since people usually link to relevant content, then it stands to reason that the pages with more inbound links are usually the best sources for a specific keyword, then pages that have no in-bound links.
Why is PageRank important?
Because Google considers the PageRank of a specific page while indexing a web page in its search results. If you have a good pagerank, you have a better chance of getting indexed above any other lower ranked webpage.
How Can I Increase My PageRank?
Your PageRank increases when other people link to your website. But, they have to be relevant links… make sure you’re not trading links with a link farm.

While you are building web pages at your website, create links to other relevant pages within your own website. However, moderation is key… don’t overdo it.
Of course, the best way to increase your PageRank is to create killer content… content is king, and if you create content that other people want to link to, then you have a better chance at increasing your PageRank.
