Internet Marketing Tips; A social networking
profile is your first impression. It's a lot like
a business card giving people a peek at the real you.
As you know, first impressions are important;
- When interviewing for a job it only takes 30 seconds to make a lasting impression.
- When viewing a home to purchase, curb appeal can make or break a sale within the first 15 seconds.
- And don’t we all buy a book based on it’s cover… even if it is an eBook?
So, when it comes to your social networking profile, take the time to make a great first impression.
Internet Market Tip: Be sure to include a picture of you at your social networking sites… with as much face as possible.
Part of your first impression at a social networking site is your picture. And since ‘people do business with people they know and like’, providing a picture of you gets them one step closer to knowing and liking you.
Businesses are made of people, and, oftentimes a business isn’t tangible. However the people that represent the business are tangible and you can talk to them. Learning more about a business owner brings us closer to a connection and builds trust so that we feel comfortable spending money with them and the company they represent.
Internet Marketing Tips; The most telling first impression in social media is made at your Profile, so take the time to get it right.
Be sure to include human elements that people will respond to upon seeing them.

After you read a Profile of someone you are considering doing business with – don’t you ask yourself – “Is this the kind of person I would want to do business with?” When presenting yourself and your business, you have to balance the business side with the personal side in order to build relationships before the sale.
Write your story so that people understand ‘what you do’ and how ‘what you do’ might benefit them. Include personal information so that people know what matters to you outside of business. Be sure to include a couple of links (just a couple) in the text and be clear about what makes you unique in your industry (or organization).
Internet Marketing Tip: When creating a social networking profile, sum up ‘what you do’ to give people a sense of what ‘they can do – with you’… that’s the goal.
You might also add a way for people to contact you at the bottom of your Profile. Don’t include a link to your website, instead include a link to the contact page at your website, or an email address and phone number.
When adding your current employment, be sure to add a couple lines that summarize what you do. Write in a way that engages people, that peaks their interest, and makes them smile. Always remember to ‘keep it simple’.
